Jar Life- Why Glass Is Better Than Plastic w/ Burrito Jar Recipe

Image
Why glass, you ask? I have been using glass mason jars for storage for more than a decade. I dislike plastic for numerous reasons. Start with petrochemicals, then move to xenoestrogens. You get the idea. On a more practical level, glass is gorgeous and aesthetically pleasing. Built to last. No stains on glass, no yucky lingering food smells. Glass is practical. Forget about the struggle to find matching lids. No mystery foods concealed by plastic hiding out in the back of the fridge turning into a science experiment. You can see your food. And my favorite part? Good use of vertical storage space. Last but not least and possibly most important, glass is cheap –costs much less than plastic. Top 10 reasons for glass? healthier visible victuals vertical storage space aesthetically appealing easy to clean no stains no flavor trespassing won’t melt in dishwasher matching lids cost effective Anyhow, I am still replacing my plasti

How To Make Bentonite Clay Toothpaste w/ Neem Powder

Image
The first time I made my own toothpaste is when I learned how horrible the side  effects are in commercial brands. Doing the research to learn how to make it is when I realized how easy it is to do and that everyone should be making their own toothpaste. Below is the recipe for an amazing remineralizing flouride free bentonite clay tootpaste. This is why you should think about using bentonite clay in particular:  Because of it’s excellent ability to bind to heavy metals and toxins as well as to provide minerals. Clay absorbs the bad stuff and removes it from your body. It's actually nature's detox agent. People (and animals) ingest clay for an internal cleanse. It actually enhanced gum repair  Also, using clay will also decreased cavities by increasing the remineralizing of the teeth.  Neem powder has been used for hundreds of years in over all health and beauty. You may have noticed Neem toothpaste in your health food store and had no idea wh

If you want to cleanse, lose body fat, boost energy and help reverse disease, then adding natural detox drinks to your diet can help you improve your  quality of life … fast! Try this Secret Detox drink recipe for fast results: Apple Cider Vinegar is full of enzymes and good bacteria. It contains acetic acid, which has been shown to lower blood pressure up to 6 percent. It can also help eat up the starches if you do eat grains in your diet. (I use Bragg – Apple Cider Vinegar.) While it offers a slew of amazing benefits the taste is not pleasant therefore I had to experiment with different recipes I've learned about. In my research I discovered a million recipes that offer added health benefits and makes the taste easier to swallow. Lemon juice helps balance blood sugar and has an alkaline effect on your body helping to regulate  PH. It also contains vitamin C. Cinnamon is one of the best antioxidants on the planet. Work Out Wednesday- Exercise For Your Health Not Your Weight

Image
I often encounter people who are naturally thin and maintain what they consider their perfect weight. Usually these naturally thin people feel that exercise is not necessary. I eventually will remind them that thin people die for health reasons everyday because they are to afraid to exercise because of the weight loss aspect. Weight loss is not the only good reason to exercise. You'll feel more confident, d oing something good for yourself such as working out and eating a healthy diet can go a long way towards making you feel better about yourself. And the better you feel about yourself, the more your confidence will naturally increase.   It reduces your risk of the common cold. A consistent, medium-intensity routine is a proven cold-stopper. Taking a brisk, 40-minute walk 4 days a week, for example, can cut the number of colds you experience by 25 to 50 percent and can make the colds you do catch shorter by half, studies show. Moderate exercise boosts

How Make Your Own Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

I started a 21 day ACV Challenge for my followers on the first Monday of the new year. I have always known the amazing benefits it offers in cleaning supplies and have read a numorous amount of homemade salad dressing recipes that call for it. It wasn't until I started research for the challenge that I really got a good look at the medicinal benefits. There are so many to name I will list some below. I'm pretty sure I will be using ACV on a daily bassis after all I've learned. Therefore I will make my own. The one thing you will learn about me is I'm an advocate of DIY. When you make something in your own kitchen you know what goes into it. The prep time is quick and easy and the cost of making it yourself as opposed to buying it is a no brainer. Have fun doing this and please let me know how yours turned out. You’ll need: A large glass jar ( mason and jelly jars work well. Cheese cloth, coffee filter, pice of lace, or paper towel rub

Whats The Difference In...Cooking Oils,Sugars, And Butters

Image
After many discussions about food and health over the years I've learned that most people are clueless about the process of food and how it relates to price. Many people see price tags without considering if its healthy or not. I decided to do some comparisons. There are so many things to compare so I decided to start here. About Oils All oils seem to have different health and cooking benefits, but what exactly are these benefits? Oils are composed of heart healthy, or good fats, and artery clogging, or bad fats. Good fats include monounsaturated fat and polyunsaturated fat, both of which lower total cholesterol and lower LDL cholesterol, the bad type of cholesterol. Bad fats include saturated fat and trans fat, both of which raise LDL cholesterol. Cooking Oils - When you walk down the cooking supplies aisle at the grocery store, you may be a bit surprised and overwhelmed by the selection that is now available in most markets regarding oils--olive oil, canola oil, saf

Toxic Tuesday- Processed Foods

Image
I saw a couple of girls checking out some fruit in the organic section of the produce aisle. They were speaking of if they were ripe and ready or not.  One of them commented how she had considered buying all of her fresh produce organic. Then looking up at the price, they said, “Two for five dollars!”  Without a second thought, they put the live avocado back and walked away from the vegetable aisle toward the aisles full of dead, boxed, canned, packaged goods where they can buy thousands of calories of poor-quality, nutrient-poor, factory-made, processed foods filled with sugar, fat, and salt for the same five dollars. This is the scenario millions of Americans struggling to feed their families face every day. The odd paradox is that food insecurity — not knowing where the next meal is coming from or not having enough money to adequately feed your family — leads to obesity, diabetes, and chronic disease. Examining this paradox may help us advocate for policies that make prod
